Vivian Chung

Vivian Chung

Principal, Managing Director

Vivian Chung is an award-winning literacy educator, Managing Director of Story Jungle Education, and Founding Director of REACH HK, a charity dedicated to expanding access to early literacy education. She is known for her innovative storytelling-based English programmes and her commitment to empowering children through language, learning, and opportunity.

Building on over two decades in education, Vivian established Story Jungle Education to empower young people through language, stories, and narrative-based learning. Her programmes have reached over 100,000 students across more than 100 schools in Hong Kong, helping children become confident readers, expressive communicators, and self-directed learners. Through REACH HK, the nonprofit arm of Story Jungle, she also works to bridge educational inequality for underserved kindergarteners by providing high- quality early literacy education.

Vivian is the Co-Founder of the Children's Character Festival, a community initiative that uses stories and student-led sharing to highlight kindness, empathy, and positive values in young children. Known for her use of storytelling to develop language, confidence, and resilience, she has led seminars for audiences of up to 600 students and has inspired over 100,000 young learners through her workshops and flagship programmes.

As a sought-after keynote speaker and teacher trainer, Vivian has shared her expertise at major academic events and institutions including Teachers College, Columbia University, the Education University of Hong Kong's International Conference on Life Education and Well-Being, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Education. In addition to student programmes, she regularly delivers parenting talks, teacher professional development, and training on storytelling pedagogy, literacy development, resilience, and English language teaching.

As a graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University, Vivian holds a Master's in Psychology in Education, where her research focused on resilience and its role in children's learning, wellbeing, and long-term development. This research continues to inform her curriculum design and programme innovation, particularly in fostering a love of reading and helping students build inner strength and a growth mindset through stories. Since 2021, she has served as Convenor for Columbia University's Teachers College Hong Kong Alumni Association, curating school tours, expert-led discussions, and cross-industry networking events that connect the Hong Kong TC alumni community with the Columbia Alumni Association Hong Kong and the wider Greater Bay Area. She also serves as a Program Recognition and Skill Assessment Committee Member of FutureGen Girls Foundation, helping to shape initiatives that equip girls with future-ready competencies, confidence, and communication skills.

As AI reshapes the world, Vivian believes that what technology can never replace is the depth of human character — empathy, creativity, and the ability to communicate with authenticity and heart. Rather than fearing AI, she sees this era as an opportunity to double down on what makes us irreplaceably human: a love of stories, the courage to express ideas, and the values we instil in children from their earliest years. In her view, a child who reads widely and speaks confidently will always have an edge — not despite AI, but because of the qualities it cannot replicate.

Vivian recently shared these convictions in an interview with HK01. Read the full article here: HK01 — Welcoming the AI Era: Character & Communication Show Greater Value

Sally Ng has been a Native English Teacher at Story Jungle since 2007 and she specialises in technical writing, GCSE, speech training, and grammar. Sally teaches students from both local and international schools. She is also knowledgeable with the British boarding school system. Born in the United Kingdom, Sally completed her high school education in a prestigious UK boarding school and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of London. Having spent a number of years studying in St. Mary’s Canossian School, Sally is familiar with the local school system and understands through first-hand experience the struggles that Hong Kong students encounter. “Like many other students in Hong Kong, reading English books was just a part of my primary school curriculum. I did not know how and what to read for leisure until I was schooled in the UK, where I was guided to a completely different reading approach and suitable books. Eventually, I learned the power of reading and its life-long benefits, as well as the importance of nurturing a reading habit. I decided to dedicate my career to helping children build confidence and gain knowledge through English reading since I strongly believe in the significant impacts that reading brings to every child.”

Sally runs REACH Reading Charity with Ms. Vivian as she believes that every child deserves quality education regardless of their socioeconomic background and gender.
